Fake tagging

15/07/2010
Fake tagging photos is fun, right? Look, there’s a dog’s butt with my mate Luke’s name on it. There’s a Barbie doll tagged with my friend Millie. And there’s a big ugly naked dude with – wait a minute – my name?

Suddenly not so fun. Or is it? I mean, I bet my friends are all having a good laugh about it right now. No harm done.

But is that always the case? Can you go too far? Is fake tagging a rudie/nudie pic automatically crossing the line? Or does it depend on the intention of the tagger?

Given the fact that it is now common for prospective employers to google prospective employees, I would say it's inappropriate, because it not only says that you associate with people who are immature, but the fact that it is still there infers that you too are also immature, and maturity is something many employers look for in employees.

Fake tagging isn't necessarily over the line. It depends on the content of what is being posted. If u do find it offensive simply report it or remove tag. Its no different to a spoken joke the many offensive at least now we can remove tag.

"As Parent's we all need to go back to basic's and guide this generation to be more thoughtful and less selfish.Teenagers need to get off all the social networking site's and this kind of technology and become more interactive with family!!"

seems a little selfish to enforce the previous generations views on the youth. to add it appears narrow minded and disrespectful to restrict what most use as a valid form of communication through networking sites. what this looks like is laziness with a hint of xenophobia to the viral generation... getting rid a growing social component rather than learning to understand it. why do people seem hell bent on moving backwards in a developing world? people interact with family when there are some sort of similarities to base a connection on. families want to be brought together, form a balance between the wants of the teenagers and the wants of the parents, not inflicting one generations views on the other. that is was leads to hostility and a lack of interaction

You need to be able to evaluate whether your emotive response to something is balanced and sound...and don't let your emotions run your life...JUST DON'T POST THESE COMMENTS or you will find yourself in court.

unless you are thier with the porson tagging and watching what they are doing it is going over the line!!!

The Youth of today does not feel compasion... does not know respect...As Parent's we all need to go back to basic's and guide this generation to be more thoughtful and less selfish.Teenagers need to get off all the social networking site's and this kind of technology and become more interactive with family!!

They may think its all a joke and i'll like it, but its not. More people need to report people to get it in others heads that its wrong

I don't mind if people tag me in photos that may be offensive to others...To be honest I find them funny some of them are quotes and some of them are just down right funny. If you don't with to be tagged just remove it but the intentions when fake tagging are not to harm or bully anyone but to spread a joke.
Posted By: - Sep 13, 2010, 7.30PM
You people need to get a grip on reality. Deal with the fact that you are respeonsible for your own concepts of what is offensive, what is hurtful, what is funny; you and you alone.

These things are not constant but ever changing, as are we.

You need to be able to evaluate whether you emotive response to something is balanced and sound.

It's just words on a screem, anyone who can't deal with that needs to seek real help.

Fake tagging is a serious thing no matter how it is ammed at or what the perpous of it is it is TOTALLY crossing to line.
Posted By: Princess know it all - Sep 10, 2010, 7.54PM
Don't fake tag unless you know the person REALLY well and you know they would not get offended beacuse it's a personal joke etc. Maybe even ask them if it's ok prior to tagging.
Posted By: Ari - Sep 8, 2010, 3.48PM
Shhh about it, deadset the line depends on the person and your relationship with them, not the tag.

"Well imagine being the "big ugly naked dude" and realising people are doing this. Fact is, it's not right for anyone, there are innocent ones but the problem is, many people just don't see the line to begin with. It really is cruel and sad."

I think this person has raised an even more important issue. The continuation and accessibility of porn on the internet.

If we start hurting the feelings of our beloved porn stars who will we turn to, to act out our most wildest and ridiculous fantasies?
There's always a bigger picture.

Peace.

Is it crossing the line if I drew a picture of me putting my work colleagues cat in a bin and gave it to her?
Posted By: Andrew - Sep 2, 2010, 10.43AM
I am in primary school and kids are already are crossing the line. They write bad stuff on Facebook, they call girls names and they bag peoples clothes.
Thanx!
Posted By: Primary School Student - Sep 1, 2010, 7.57PM
If someone crosses your line and you don't approve delete them and use the privacy functions on facebook, it's pretty simple. Like in life some people will tease you, not like you, or do things you generally don't like. Chin up and don't pay attention. Sticks and stones...

Am I crossing the line if I drew a picture of a work colleague's cat being thrown in a bin by myself?
Posted By: Andrew - Sep 1, 2010, 12.16PM
Sorry Tanya, this website is an unwise move. I think it is foolish to approach such matters in a patriarchal manner. As a 15 year old, i dislike the idea of forced morals, especially due to your agenda being the minister for the status of women. Education should not be through shock facebook ads.
Posted By: - Sep 1, 2010, 12.01AM
Taking someones identity and portraying them as something else is crossing the line for me.
Posted By: Dee - Aug 31, 2010, 6.22PM
I perused this site and it like the campaign ads its a totally biased campaign against boys/males. It also lacks any advice on passive aggressiveness. The fact that it was launched by the Minister for Women instead of the Youth minister just indicates it's bias and discrimination... and the mind boggling thing is that this discrimination is government approved.

if you dont want to be tagged as a dogs butt dont join facebook :)

My ex told Everyone I cheated on him. He broke into my new boyfriend's house twice, slashed four of his tyres. Hacked my facebook and told everyone my brother raped me. He's in jail ATM but I think that it's obvious he crossed the line. Might seem funny at the time but he's f ing serious time over it.

I'm not a teenager but when I was this sort of thing happened in a more direct and obvious form. It starts off small and innocuous but thats just the thin edge of the wedge. Now as an adult I have learned that my self esteem and those of my friends has been badly damaged and it affects all of my life. I would never have thought that possible when it happened to me when I was younger. It affects you without knowing and to those that would tell me to get real - well I am. You play with fire and it comes back to burn you. Just be aware that it can hurt and to those that are sensitive - there is always are reason. Usually its because the line been crossed before and it has left its mark. I wish I had a website like this when I was younger to be able to identify that it was not my fault but someone else's bad social practice.

The intentions of one person can be taken entirely differently by another so if ur thinking about it just dont do it even if its supposed to be a joke

how about we all stop being sensitive. Learning how to deal with people winding you up is a part of growing up. Deal with your problems, don't go off and say "oh you crossed the line, i'm telling".
this is the biggest problem in Australia, kids are gonna start growing up complete pussy's and break down at the sign of conflict

I have a partner who's ex constantly be littles us on face book to her friends...Our wedding is coming up and she has also said she will make sure its not my day and the attention won't be on me the bride...Its hurtfull that someone has to rally up all their face book friends and say this stuff....I am a strong person and wouldn't never do the same i may think it but i would never say it......Isn't that close to detrement of Character?????????? Stick together and let those who you dilike no be in your daily thoughts or idea's just leave evryone alone and help those that need help....take care
Posted By: Lisab - Aug 18, 2010, 1.34PM
You can remove the tag yourself from Facebook photos. If you do that noone can re-tag you, as it won't accept.
Posted By: Bek - Aug 18, 2010, 11.00AM
Everyone's line is going to be different. Suggesting a one-size fits all solution may not really address the issues. However, it's true that some people are resilience challenged. I think if a line has been drawn for us as to what is acceptable for a particular person then we need to respect this. At the same time we can probably think of people who are super sensitive and may need to be shown how they probably attribute too much negative meaning to something that was intended as fun.Probably best for a friend to do this rather than someone who will take things too far too soon.Putting up tags on random posts -(targeting individuals) - on peoples photos that you don't even know is always going to invite outrage.
Posted By: Steve - Aug 16, 2010, 1.13PM
That's just crude and offensive. I don't like it when people put pictures of me on Facebook without my permission, let alone tagging them.

That crosses the line for me.

Posted By: equestrienne - Aug 16, 2010, 11.03AM
I agree totally with Badge. If you wouldn't have your name on it, don't put other people's names on it. Have some respect!
Posted By: Badge is Right - Aug 15, 2010, 4.27PM
I don't know... it kind of depends on what the picture is. I don't think tagging naked people as others is ok. But if it's just Barbie, or Mickey Mouse or whatever, that's fine, as long as you don't put surnames.
Posted By: Thinking - Aug 15, 2010, 4.25PM
It really depends on what the image is and if they would find it offensive. If it's just an image of say Disney characters then thats fine but when its bad stuff thats when its crossing the line.

Are we to discuss economy or provide solution to restrain the illegal immigrants.Pl read the contents on this web as to what is meant for and then comment. You should be off this site if it doesn't relate to your topic of discussion.
Posted By: Neera - Aug 12, 2010, 11.59AM
Do you honestly think that this should even be a topic!...I thought this site was for more serious issues?

This is nothing but small and hardly important compared to some thing.
It didn't take you people running this site to run out of semi decent ideas.

At first i didn't agree with all these people saying it's a waste of tax payers money, i think it's a great idea to help people and for people to have an opinion. But this topic is just ridiculous, hence my comment being the 14th- it's not even worth commenting on.

Seriously think bigger and better or find and pay someone who can.

another week, another poor attempt to tug at the heartstrings of the youth.

just like "last week" (even though it has been a month since any new discussion has been poster), this is not an issue plaguing the relationships of the youth. it's a picture with a fake-tag. it amounts to the same thing as drawing a mustache or a black eye on a copy of someones photo. as sage said "actions have consequences - equal and opposite" and it is hard to justify any giant, life-changing or severly detrimental reaction stemming from a fake-tag. the biggest result would be another fakely-tagged photo, how horrible.

as for another comment, from redroseaus, they speak of the photo itself. if the photo were a red rose, then the fake-tag would be alright in everyway. anyone else see a double standard? the outrage isn't at the act itself, but the content. the same with the scenario itself: the person finds the dog's ass fake-tag amusing, but their's of the naked man, not so much. people are selfish and stupid in wanting to only surround themselves with the good aspects of everything in the world because they are either condemning someone else to suffer the bad, or you're wanting good to lose all meaning entirely. not only that, but it's fantasy that will never come true. the human character is not perfect, stop trying to sweep it under the carpet.

people apply too much sensitivity to what they see, read and interact with on the internet. they shouldn't, because it is nothing like the real world. there is no human interaction, no emotion and slowly less and less truth. it's people hidden behind a keyboard choosing to be whatever they want to be: either a coward attempting to cause harm hidden by an alias - or - a masked avenger trying to reveal truthes. in the end, they are just words on a screen... words that can be responded to or ignored, much more easily than physical and social encounters back in the real world.

that's what this website should focus on... but since the start of the election campaign, the aims of this website in helping youths and their relationships have been forgotten, and the content has become less and less meaningful.

I Dont Think They Meant To Hurt You or Offend You In Anyway, It Probs Was Just A joke and They Didnt Think Of How It Would Effect Your Feeling. what you can do though is untagg your name out of the photo and next time you see the person tell them you were effended and maybe she/he wont do it again. if it keeps happening then maybe you need to rethink your friends, find some people who dont do that to the mates ...
Posted By: Little Miss Help - Aug 4, 2010, 9.15AM
I dont think it's funny. First time a saw an img with my name on it. I was wondering why that person have my photo and tag my name on it. But when i open it, such a rubbish, a none-sense img with lots of ppl name were tagged on... that's annoyed. And as this story, it's not showing respect to YOU at all. If the img is a beautiful rose, it's nice. But whenever it's not a nice photo in a nice manner, it shows disrespect to the one who was tagged...

was it done maliciously, or is just a different sense of humour? I think the line gets blurred when it hurts your feelings, but the line gets crossed if it was done intentionally to hurt you. But what to do about it if you don't want to look like a sap if it was just meant to be a harmless joke? Laugh it off; then de-tag.

There's NO better place to start than treating others as you'd like to be treated yourself so remember - actions have consequences - equal and opposite. If you wouldn't like it happening to you, chances are someone else won't either! Be cool not cruel!

it's all very well to say what should be done or not done, but what about the hurt that somebody feels when it is done tho them. How often do they try to stop the hurt by doing it back. Feeling angry is easier than feeling hurt.

As humans are we not continually crossing the line, if not scrubbing the line out and drawing a new one that suits us? And on this continuim can the youth of australia today actually be given the oopourtunity to trip over the line content in the knowledge that we (society and the local community)are there to support them particuarly when they need our love and guidance.

Peace, love and happiness to All, Rachel R

This line shuld be open for all age groups becos i have been verbally abused and called names such as slut, promisicus, old, ugly etc online . My computer was hacked too and i was shocked to learn that it happened to be one of my ex colleagues. It did affect my health to some extent but had the support of my loved ones who made me feel positive about myself.

"It's a picture with a name on it so what it's still funny." Thats what she said before she found out one had her name on it. If you get a picture and put a name on it thats not yours although if may seem funny imagin it was your name on it. What I always say is that is if you don't like it happening to you don't do it to others.
