THE LINE LAUNCH HIGHLIGHTS TRANSCRIPT

MAYA JUPITER:

My name is Maya Jupiter and I want to welcome you to the launch of The Line campaign. The reason I wanted to join this campaign is because I believe we do have the power to change this behaviour and this culture of violence in our society, and I just want to be part of the movement. I believe that we are all worthy of love and respect.

So let's kick things off. This is a song called I Am.*

MAYA JUPITER (SINGS)

I Am
A magical mystical manifestation of life
I Am
A professional powerful lyricist grabbin' the mic
I can
Imagine a world where all boys and girls
Have a reason to live
I stand
For justice equality
Present and past what was and what is
I AM..................

C'mon clap your hands (fades)

MAYA JUPITER

Please welcome to the stage the honourable Tanya Plibersek MP and Minister for the Status of Women

TANYA PLIBERSEK

The Line is a government campaign that helps young people talk to other young people in a space that they're familiar with. A lot of the campaign is online. It will invite young Australians to access and create music, radio, print and online content themselves that promote respectful relationships.

We have two fabulous artists Pez and Tenielle who are also part of the growing collective endorsement of the Australian Music Industry.

TENIELLE:
On behalf of Maya and Lisa Pez and I are going to read the Artist Communique and then present it to The Minister.

PEZ:
Ok. We are proud to be a part of the Australian Government's new campaign The Line.

TENIELLE:
When it comes to relationships you have to have respect.

PEZ:
It's about knowing where to draw the line, making that clear difference between what's OK and what's not.

TENIELLE:
It's about respecting yourself and others.

PEZ:
Wherever you are. Whatever you're doing. Whoever you're with.

TENIELLE:
That's why we say yes to The Line

PEZ:
Yes!

PEZ (SINGS)

So it goes/ I sit around and think about all the pain exchanged just to get to now
Livin' down near the bottom it's become quiet clear that their aim to keep me right here, right here /but what they say/ I can see and I see that it's not that way/ I want that day to come / I guess for me I can see and cos my realistic is idealistic...

Change it for the better/ change it for the better today.
